    Vinson & Elkins names Houston managing partner

    Winson & Elkins

    Vinson & Elkins Partner Karl S. Stern is taking over as the managing partner of the firm’s Houston office, succeeding Marie Yeates who has served in the role for nearly seven years.

    Stern has led the firm’s Global Litigation & Regulatory Department since 2010. V&E Partner Jim Thompson will succeed Stern in leading the firm’s Global Litigation & Regulatory Department.

    Stern joined V&E in 1982. Stern handles complex business cases, including cases involving antitrust claims, and disputes relating to complex transactions, entity governance, mergers and acquisitions, energy trading, and shareholder rights.

    Thompson came to the firm in 1986. He serves on V&E’s Management Committee and Chairs the firm’s Shale and Hydraulic Fracturing Task Force, as well as co-leading its Complex Commercial Litigation practice.

    Yeates has been with V&E since 1981. She has been involved in appeals of litigation involving commercial disputes, business torts, oil and gas, securities, class actions, tax, trade secrets, labor law and condemnation. Yeates continues to serve as co-head of the Appellate group and on the Firm’s Management Committee.
