Opportune LLP has acquired Eco Risk Markets LLC, an energy consulting firm focused on risk strategy and related valuation services. Randy Wilson and Evan Zuckert, who collectively founded Eco Risk Markets in 2009, have joined Opportune as managing directors and will continue to be focused on risk management strategy, valuation and analytics for energy sector clients transacting across the derivative and physical markets.
David Baggett, Managing Partner of Opportune, commented, “The addition of the Eco Risk Markets team builds upon our existing expertise in enterprise risk, corporate finance, valuation and process and technology. This combination will provide our collective clients with more bandwidth and service offerings.”
Prior to joining Opportune and founding Eco Risk Markets, Zuckert was a managing director at BNP Paribas in New York, where he originated structured risk management products incorporating derivative and capital for energy sector clients in North America. He has held similar origination roles in debt and derivative origination for Merrill Lynch and Phibro Energy in London and Singapore. Over his 25 year career in banking, capital markets and consulting, he has worked with a wide range of energy and commodity dependent companies to identify effective strategies that achieve risk management, liquidity, capital raising and other commercial and marketing objectives. He also works with market participants to achieve readiness around the newly effective derivative rules and regulations implemented by the CFTC under the “Dodd-Frank” Act. Evan earned a BA in Political Science from Kenyon College, and a MBA in Finance from the University of Connecticut.
Randy Wilson has over 20 years of experience as a risk management professional within the financial services and energy sectors, helping companies manage issues around hedging, liquidity, market risk, and financial reporting. He was formerly a partner within a big 4 accounting firm’s financial risk management practice responsible for directing complex projects focused on energy risk management. He has worked with numerous large energy and commodity trading companies to optimize processes and enhance value within their trading and risk management functions.
Wilson has an MBA from Oregon State University and is a frequent speaker at energy events on current risk management issues. He has authored numerous articles on risk management and accounting practices within commodity trading companies.
