Oil industry veteran Niemiec joins Holland Services

Holland Services, an oil and gas land related services provider, has named Donald W. Niemiec as senior executive vice president in charge of the company’s midstream and downstream operations.

Niemiec began his career with Exxon, and then spent 18 years with the Union Pacific Resources Group Inc.

Niemiec began his 7-year stint with Exxon at the Baytown refinery as a member of the management team.  He was then moved to the company’s Houston headquarters and made responsible for corporate planning which encompassed E&P, pipelines and infrastructure, and refining and marketing.

As president of Union Pacific Fuels Inc. (UPFuels), Niemiec developed the vision, launched the new business unit and grew the company, generating $70 million in net income on $2.9 billion revenue. As vice president, marketing and corporate development for the parent company, he was an advisor to the board of directors, led M&A activities, and partnered with the CEO in negotiating the merger of UPR with Anadarko Petroleum in 2000. Niemiec is an expert in risk management, hedging, derivative trading and NYMEX trading.   

During his career, Niemiec has served in positions of senior executive management, engineering, energy trading, project management, marketing, business development, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory and legislative affairs, in both regulated and unregulated markets.

Niemiec was appointed by Governor George W. Bush to the Texas Energy Coordination Council (TECC) where he was then elected chairman by his peers. He has been an executive committee member of the Natural Gas Supply Association of America (NGSA), member of the Natural Gas Council, and a former advisory board member of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).  Niemiec has testified as an expert witness representing the oil and natural gas industry before the US Senate, the US House of Representatives, the Texas Railroad Commission, and the Texas State Public Utility Commission.  

Following six years in the US Navy Nuclear Submarine Service, Niemiec earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University. As an executive he has participated in the Harvard Business School Advanced Management and Advanced Marketing Management Programs.  Don will be based in Holland’s corporate offices in Fort Worth, Texas.
