Enterprise Products Partners LP (NYSE: EPD) said Jan. 3 it will develop and build a 1,230-mile ethane pipeline from areas of the Marcellus and Utica shale plays to the Gulf Coast.
The pipeline, called ATEX Express, will have the capacity to transport up to 190,000 barrels of ethane per day to storage and distribution facilities in Texas. It will begin in Washington County, Pa., travel through Missouri, where Houston-based Enterprise will make use of an existing pipeline, and end in Mont Belvieu, Tex.
The pipeline project is expected to create about 4,000 jobs during and after its construction, according to Michael Creel, president and CEO of Enterprise’s general partner. It is expected to begin operations by the first quarter of 2014.
The cost of the project was undisclosed.
