Gas directed shale rig counts down 16 for the month

Fayetteville shale down by two for the week, Haynesville shale down by one

Gas directed rig counts for the shale plays are down both this week and for the month, according to a January 11 research note by Jefferies & Co. Inc. citing Smith.

This week, gas rigs were down by seven, while gas directed rigs in the shale plays are down 16 for the month.

The Fayetteville shale horizontal count was down three rigs, driven by Johnson County, which was down by two, according to January 11 research note from Jefferies & Co. Inc. Both EOG Resources (NYSE: EOG) and Chesapeake Energy (NYSE: CHK) dropped a rig in Johnson County, the report showed. The Fayetteville is now down five rigs over the past month. 

Activity in the Haynesville shale is also down. Jefferies’ noted the count is down by one this week, down eleven in the past two months, and down 27 from the this summer's peak.
