HOUSTON – The founder of Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT), Dr. Tom Smith, has started a new company, Geophysical Insights, to tackle fundamental geophysical problems and develop advanced technology for interpretation of seismic data.
The company expects the analytic methods being developed to reduce the time and risk associated with oil and gas exploration. The company will provide consulting services and training to their clients in its application.
The company’s initial research and development focuses on the use of neural networks as a means of rapidly revealing insights to seismic data in ways that may otherwise be missed with conventional methods. “A major step-change in interpretation technology is required to analyze the vast quantity of seismic data that is now available,” noted Smith.
